Want a fun and engaging way to teach food chains at KS1? This sequencing science craft activity is hands-on alternative to a food chains worksheet. Children can construct a 4-stage food chains for 3 different habitats - a woodland, ocean/sea and a rainforest. For each habitat, there are 4 options included: Template 1: Colour the food chain template and food chain stages, cut and fold. Template 2: Color the template and food chain stages, arrange the stages in order, glue, cut, and fold. Template 3: Colour the template, draw/write a 3-stage food chain for that habitat in the boxes, cut, and fold. Template 4: Colour the template, draw/write a 4-stage food chain for that habitat in the boxes, cut, and fold. In addition, you’ll find a blank template included that you can use for any habitat. Once folded, pupils can hide their food chain by bringing the 2 halves of the template together, then gently pull apart to reveal the inside. There is minimal prep required. Print the designs you plan to use on paper or card. Pupils need coloured pencils and scissors. One template in each habitat set requires glue. Instructions for how to fold are included (you may wish to make an example beforehand for those who might find folding tricky). This resource is 20 pages long and contains a version for both UK and US paper sizes.

This foldable activity is a great way to start January with positivity and a good mindset. It’s also a fun alternative to a new year worksheet! This resource contains the following: A PDF with 3 similar templates, with identical prompts. A PowerPoint file with 3 blank templates to write your own prompts for students. These can then be printed for students to complete and fold. A Google Slides link (in the PDF) with 3 blank templates to write your own prompts for pupils. Get to know your class with this no-prep, all about me activity. This foldable printable is ideal for back-to-school or for an ‘about me’ topic and is a fun alternative to a standard worksheet. Print the template on white paper. There are 4 designs to choose from, each with the same prompts (please note that the templates are not editable). Pupils will need coloured pencils, a pen and scissors. Firstly, pupils will colour the top and bottom of the template. They can then fill in the boxes with words and pictures.
